How Much Is Illegal Immigration Costing American Taxpayers - by State?
by Red Gop
It's easy to ignore illegal immigration. After all, we get up in the morning, take a shower, get dressed, and go to work daily. For most of us, we wouldn't ever see an illegal immigrant at work. And, later in the day, we drive home - free from illegal immigrants, unless in some rare case an uninsured illegal immigrant would rear end our car and drive away. But, that's quite unlikely. On the weekends, for most of us, it's either doing some added work - at home or for charity - or off to dinner or some other event.
On the slim chance we see an illegal immigrant, we wouldn't even know it. It could be at a restaurant, or perhaps fixing a roof. But, again, we don't know. Our eyebrows might be raised. But, that's the extent. And, like a good little camper, we keep our mouths shut, lest we mistakenly embarrass ourselves.
Occasionally, we'll see an article in the newspaper about something that happened. Perhaps, some random person was killed as a result of some immigrant gang such as MS-13. We'll read about the work towards the wall, and those opposing it. That might be a summary of illegal immigrants in our eyes, and thus it's quite easy to ignore. But, we shouldn't. It impacts the citizens of this nation - quite likely, considerably more than we suspect.
Years ago, I once knew a nice young man. I'll refer to him in past tense since it's been decades since I spoke with him, but presume he's still alive. In any case, his name was James, and I won't include his last name here because it would be somewhat of an intrusion to put him on the spotlight. He was Hispanic. He was not an illegal alien. And, he couldn't pay his rent.
At the time, James was in the process of being evicted. He had lost his job at the steak house, which I'll just say is JR. Not because he was doing a poor job. Apparently, he told me that his manager told him something to the effect, "Why should I pay you, when I can hire illegal immigrants and pay them half as much?" Indeed, why would any business owner not want to do that?
In Ohio, it seems that none of the politicians want to do anything about situations like James. But, the politicians should. Right now, our politicians seem completely indifferent to such situations, disregarding the taxes lost. Democrats could care less. The RINOs - Republicans in name only - are also indifferent. They may figure: why stand out? But, due to this indifference, we should not forget about other impacts of immigration.
If a building or roofing company hires illegal immigrants, they will often refrain from paying taxes and other items as well. They want to keep such matters off-the-books. That means no taxes for the city, state, federal government, or locale.
And, when an illegal alien gets hurt, since they're not paying workers comp, they will march off to a hospital, with most hospitals providing care regardless of whether the person can afford such. In California, many hospitals have since gone bankrupt as a result.
Another consideration here is that if a company pays less by hiring illegal aliens and no taxes and other fees, it can charge less. As a result, it can under-bid its competitors. The competitors must then either follow suit, or they may be forced out of business.
At this time, the state of Ohio is looking to increase gas taxes. Why? Well, other states might charge more - or so we've been told. But, in any case, whether they truly need to do this, or just want to build some more rainy day slush funds - anyone can guess. And, instead of doing something about the illegal immigrants - such as legislating excessive fines for companies who hire illegal aliens so as to raise the tax base and ensure that businesses comply with federal laws and thereby increasing the tax revenue - they continue to turn a blind eye, feigning ignorance to the whole ordeal.
In Oklahoma, back in 2016, when all states were losing jobs left and right, it had actually shown an increase in jobs. At the time, it had enacted a law that forbade hiring of illegal immigrants. There would be increased penalties for each successive time it was discovered that a company had employed illegal immigrants. After the third strike, the company's business license would be revoked. Ohio should follow a similar model, and do something for a change.
A wall will do little good if we continue to provide motivation through jobs being offered to illegal aliens. This must stop for the wall to be effective.
Ask your representatives to do something. And, remember this at election time. For, if Republicans decide to be RINOs and act like Democrats, why even bother to give them a dime or vote?
